3. A system reference manual is necessary to provide reference to all system
functions, errors and how to recover there from.
4. A system installation manual should contain pertinent information concerning
installation. This information at the minimum should include recommended and
minimal hardware specifications, installation media inventory, preparatory
procedures for systems receiving the install and an installation walkthrough.
5. A system administrator's manual should be included in some systems docu-
mentation. This manual should document the system's faults and configurations
for advanced implementations.
13.5 Phase V: System Integration and Testing
In the integration and testing phase, all the planning and programming will come
to its first major test. Integration into a release system requires that the project is
tested and complete. Though it is still possible to provide finishing touches, the
product should be nearly complete. This sub chapter will provide examples of
proper tests and testing procedures so that it is easier to implement them during
this phase of the project.
13.5.1 Testing
Testing is basically composed of two different varieties; quality testing and per-
formance testing. Quality testing is increasing the confidence with which the
software will perform to specification under appropriate conditions. Performance
testing creates a benchmark of the ability of the software; this may be measured in
execution time, throughput, bandwidth consumption, etc. Testing theory mostly
revolves around the idea that software is inherently flawed and it only requires the
correct test case to provide insights into the flaws.
