13.1.3.2 Progress Reports
Progress reports are essential in projects where students organize and work at a
pace they set. They are not only important for academic assessment, but for the
student's motivation (Clark et al. 2005 ). Time management requires plans, and in
order to determine if the plan is being followed, individuals and teams need to
report progress at a regular interval. Work assessment can be broken down cate-
gorically, for better understanding of what each individual spent time working on.
Some potential categories for work are (Fig. 13.4 ):
• Team Meeting
• Documentation
• Testing
• Code Development
• Customer Client Interaction
In a real world setting, what gets done on the project at hand is the first and
foremost concern, but in an academic setting, individual effort needs to be coupled
with progress and growth. This is why it is necessary to have peer and self-
assessment, as well as time management analysis. In a personal progress analysis,
students answer questions about themselves and then are given the opportunity to
assess other students that with whom they work closely. Opinions can create
animosity among peers. For the sake of each student's pride and self-respect, the
