Double-click one of the entries on the list that contains the word controller . Most
systems have two controllers listed. A dialog box for the controller appears.

Click through each of the tabs in the dialog box to note what information is available
for the USB controller. In particular, look on the Advanced tab and see what devices are
consuming bandwidth. Each controller will show System Reserved 20%, even if there
are no devices listed for that controller. Below that will appear any USB devices it's
supporting.

Click Cancel to close the dialog box.

Repeat steps 3-5 for any other entries that contain the word controller .
7.
Using the same process, browse the properties of each of the USB items on the list that
contain the word hub .
8.
Close the Device Manager window.
FireWire
FireWire is a competitive technology to USB. Its offi cial name is IEEE 1394, after the
IEEE standard that defi nes it, but FireWire is the friendlier and more common moniker.
However, it's typically labeled IEEE1394, as shown in Figure 4.18.
