Other orbiting commands
Other commands can be applied for orbiting around the model, and they have some
features 3DFORBIT ( Free Orbit ): that may be useful:
3DFORBIT ( Free Orbit ): This is similar to the 3DORBIT command, but al-
lows for a free orbit around the model, that is, it doesn't maintain the Z ax-
is in the vertical direction. It shows a green circle, and the command be-
havior depends on the area where we drag. This command can be useful
in the design, mechanical, or other areas where verticality isn't a key is-
sue.
3DCORBIT ( Continuous Orbit ): This allows for a continuous perpetual
orbit. We drag the cursor in the required direction and the selected ob-
jects will visually rotate in that direction. A fast or slow drag will affect the
orbit speed. The Esc key ends the command.
Exercise 2.1
Let's practice these visualization tools on a 3D model included in the accompanying
files, as shown in the following steps:
1. Open the file A3D_02_01.DWG . This is the model shown in the previous
image. Later we will create it in 2D.
2. Press the Shift key and the mouse wheel, and orbit around the model until
you feel comfortable.
3. Without entering any command, select the left wall, which is separated
from the other walls.
4. Press the Shift key and the mouse wheel, and orbit. Only the wall is being
seen. As we end the dragging, all objects reappear. Press the Esc key to
cancel the selection.
5. Without entering any command, select the balcony.
6. Type 3DO to enter the 3DORBIT command.
7. Right-click the mouse and choose Zoom Extents as shown in the follow-
ing screenshot. The balcony is zoomed in to fit the drawing area:
