In-Depth Information
Meshes are 3D objects that can simulate smooth or organic models, which can
be created in three ways: the MESH command, which has options defined by the
MESHPRIMITIVEOPTIONS command, RULESURF , TABSURF , REVSURF , and
EDGESURF commands, which are used to create existing objects from linear objects,
MESHSMOOTH (or CONVTOMESH ) command, which is used to convert existing objects
and conversion options set with MESHOPTIONS command. There are several com-
mands to edit meshes, which are as follows:
MESHEXTRUDE : This command is used to extrude selected faces
MESHCAP : This command is used to create faces that connect edges or
that close gaps
MESHSMOOTHMORE and MESHSMOOTHLESS : These command are used to
increase and decrease smoothness level
MESHCREASE and MESHUNCREASE : These command are used to define
and remove creased edges
MESHREFINE : This command is used to subdivide selected faces or
whole meshes
MESHMERGE : This command is used to join contiguous faces into one
MESHCOLLAPSE : This command is used to merge vertices
MESHSPLIT : This command is used to divide mesh faces
MESHSPIN : This command is used to rotate the edge between two con-
tiguous triangular faces
Polyface meshes are based on 3D faces defined by three or four vertices, and were
the first 3D objects in AutoCAD. To create polyface meshes there are commands,
such as 3DFACE , which is used to create faces defined by three or four vertices,
3DMESH , which is used mainly for programming and to create a polyface mesh by
specifying how many vertices exist in both directions and each vertex coordinates,
PFACE , which is used to create polyface meshes composed by faces that can have
more than four edges, and 3D , which is used to create polyface meshes correspond-
ing to basic volume shapes. The STRETCH command allows moving vertices of poly-
face meshes.
Finally, four commands were presented, related to surface analysis, namely:
ANALYSISZEBRA , which is used to analyze surfaces about continuity,
ANALYSISCURVATURE , which is used to analyze surfaces about its curvature,
ANALYSISDRAFT , which is used to analyze surfaces about how easy would they be
