Point lights
We start artificial lighting with point lights. Besides the POINTLIGHT command,
AutoCAD also provides a target point light. Point lights are represented by a small
spherical glyph.
The POINTLIGHT command
The POINTLIGHT command (no alias) creates a point light in the drawing, that is, a
light that has a specific location and radiates light in all directions. Examples are a
bulb, a fire, or a candle.
The command prompts for the light location are as follows:
Command: POINTLIGHT
Specify source location <0,0,0>: Point
We press the Enter key to exit the command or choose an option:
Enter an option to change [Name/Intensity
factor/Status/Photometry/shadoW/Attenuation/
filterColor/eXit] <eXit>: Enter or option
The command has the following options:
Name : This allows us to give a name to the light, which is quite useful
when having many lights.
Intensity factor : This allows us to specify an intensity or brightness with
a value starting at zero.
Status : This allows us to turn the light on or off.
Photometry : This option is only available with photometric lighting and
allows us to specify the intensity and color in lighting units, such as can-
dela, lux, or foot-candle. Color allows us to specify the color of the light
based on a name or temperature in Kelvins.
shadoW : This allows us to turn the shadows' projection on or off and se-
lect its type to be sharp or soft.
