Associative views
Some of the most important innovations in AutoCAD Versions 2012 and 2013 are as-
sociative views. These associative views are new AutoCAD objects known as drawing
views and represent dynamic 2D projections, sections, or details from the 3D model.
If the 3D model changes, these associative views update accordingly.
Access and automatic layers creation
The majority of the commands and functions related to associative views are not
available on toolbars or the menu bar, but can be found on the ribbon, Layout tab,
and the following panels: Create View , Modify View , Update , and Styles and Stand-
ards . So, for users who rather work with a classic workspace, they can change to the
3D Modeling workspace for these commands and, then, come back to the Classic
workspace:
When creating these associative views, AutoCAD creates and applies the following
layers, in Version 2012,all with color 7 (white):
Hidden : This layer has the HIDDEN2 linetype and lineweight 0.35
Hidden Narrow : This layer has the HIDDEN2 linetype and lineweight 0.25
Visible : This layer has the CONTINUOUS linetype and lineweight 0.50
Visible Narrow : This layer has the CONTINUOUS linetype and lineweight
0.35
In version 2013, there are six layers, all with color 7:
MD_Annotation : This layer has the CONTINUOUS linetype and line-
weight 0.25
MD_Hatching : This layer has the CONTINUOUS linetype and lineweight
0.25
MD_Hidden : This layer has the HIDDEN2 linetype and lineweight 0.35
