Plot styles
Plot styles specify printing colors, lineweights, grayscale, screening (color intensity),
and other properties. When creating a drawing, this is defined with one of the two
possible types of plot styles:
Color plot style (CTB file) : The main 255 colors ( ACI that stands for
AutoCAD Color Index ) control printing properties, each with specific
properties. All objects sharing the same color (explicit or by layer) will be
printed with the same properties.
Named plot style (STB file) : Instead of 255 colors, names are defined
in each STB file, and properties (identical to CTB) are assigned to each
name. Commonly, these names are assigned to layers. For instance, we
may have a layer called Walls , with a plot style name 0.3BLACK as-
signed to it.
The CONVERTPSTYLES command (no alias) allows to convert a drawing from color
plot style to named plot style and vice versa.
Layer properties per viewport
One of the great advantages of applying layouts is the layer properties control for
each viewport. We can freeze layers per viewport, and also modify colors, line-
weights, linetypes, and other properties. To override properties per viewport we must
first activate it.
Freezing layers per viewport
The layers list on the Layers toolbar or ribbon inside the Layers panel, in the Home
tab allows freezing a layer only in the active viewport. We access this list and mark
on the symbols of the third column, available only on layouts. Objects on these lay-
ers remain visible in other viewports and in the model space:
