Creating and configuring layouts
We will demonstrate the process from scratch, that is, creating a new layout and then
configuring it. All drawings must have at least one layout. By default, two layouts are
available; which are Layout1 and Layout2 .
The first time we access a layout, a viewport is automatically created. Unless we
maintain the default paper size, this viewport is useless and should be deleted. This
behavior can be changed by unchecking the Create viewport in new layout option
on the Display tab in the OPTIONS command.
Shortcut menu
The easiest way to create a new layout is by applying the shortcut menu (also known
as contextual menus, right-click on the mouse button) with the cursor over the Model
or any layout tab (just below the drawing area), and choosing New Layout . A new
layout tab is created, named Layout with the lowest number available.
If our AutoCAD configuration has no tabs, there are two icons on the right-hand side
of the status bar, which allow us to access Model or the last used layout. To restore
tabs display, just right-click on any of these two icons and choose Display Layout
and Model Tabs on the shortcut menu.
From this shortcut menu, we can also copy a layout from a template, delete, move
or copy, rename, and select all layouts.
Note
To rename a layout, the best way is to double-click on the tab and write the new
name. By dragging tabs, we can order layouts.
