In-Depth Information
On right-clicking over the UCS icon, all creation options as well as a list of saved
UCSs are displayed.
Important variables to know
AutoCAD has several variables related to the coordinate systems, which affect its
behavior when creating a UCS or changing a view direction. Here are the most im-
portant ones:
UCSFOLLOW : On activating a UCS while keeping the value of UCSFOLLOW
as 1 , the view changes to the respective plan view. It has a value of 0 by
default and is saved in the drawing.
UCSVP : When working with more than one viewport, this variable allows
for having an independent UCS per viewport (value 1 ) or only one UCS
in all viewports (value 0 ). It has a value of 1 by default and is saved in the
drawing.
UCSORTHO : It controls whether the corresponding orthographic UCS is
activated (value 1 ) or not (value 0 ) when changing the view to an ortho-
graphic view. It has a value of 1 by default and is saved in the registry.
UCSDETECT : It controls if dynamic UCS is on (value 1 ) or not (value 0 ). It
has a value of 1 by default and is saved in the registry.
UCSSELECTMODE : It controls whether the UCS icon can be selected,
moved, and oriented (value 1 ), or not (value 0 ). It has a value of 1 by de-
fault and is saved in the registry.
Exercise 3.1
We will draw some linear objects in different planes of a 3D model included in the
accompanying files.
1. Open the A3D_03_01.DWG file. It represents a part with several planes
that are not aligned with the WCS.
2. Create a UCS aligned with the front face. Apply the UCS command and
click on the lower-left corner, lower-right corner, and any upper vertex on
that face, in the said sequence:
