In-Depth Information
Killarney sits right on the edge of Killarney National Park, a small but exquisitely beautiful
space of winding trails and waterfalls, roughly 8 miles from end to end. There are several
world-class day hikes within the park, as well as lots of trails for cycling. At the edge of
the park is Ross Castle , an especially scenic ruin that affords spectacular views of the town
and the park beyond.

Local Sports
Fitzgerald Stadium is home to several of the teams representing County Kerry in the inter-
county Irish leagues. The stadium is fairly intimate, so it's a great way to see local sports
heroes battle with visitors from the neighboring counties. If Kerry is going up against Cork
in a Gaelic Football match, it will seem like the whole county has congregated in Fitzgerald
stadium - this is one of the most storied sports rivalries in Munster.
Innisfallen and Lough Leane
Lough Leane is a huge, tranquil lake that takes up much of the National Park. Guided boat
trips leave regularly from Ross Castle to take in the sights of the lake, especially the mys-
terious island of Innisfree, whose scenic shoreline and ruined monastery have inspired gen-
erations of poets and travelers. If you're more interested in traveling independently, you
can always rent a canoe or kayak in town and paddle out to the island yourself.
