Getting Into Connacht
If you're coming to Connacht for a visit, you're almost certainly getting there by way of
Galway. As Ireland's “second city,” Galway is easily accessible by train or bus from Dublin
(the train, of course, is considerably faster and more comfortable, but slightly more expens-
ive).
Some travelers target Connacht and the western counties for their trip, meaning they prefer
to skip Dublin altogether. In this case, you have two options. Knock Airport in County
Mayo is relatively small, but is rapidly growing - as of 2015, there are direct flights to Knock
from New York City and many cities in Europe. The more tried-and-true option is Shannon
Airport in nearby County Clare (just south of Connacht). Both airports are about a 2-hour
bus and/or train ride away from the city of Galway.
