lichens on them. Indirect evidence of
invertebrate, paricularly arthropod, feeding in
red colobus has also been reported by Struhsaker
(1975, l 978a, b), who found larvae, pupae and
adult insects present on dead tree trunks that the
Kibale red colobus were feeding on. He also
observed . b. temminckii and . b. badius picking
something (either dirt or termite) from a termite
tunnel, and saw . b. preussi eat something out of a
piece of dead wood that was then dropped. It is
likely that feeding on animal matter is an
infrequent behaviour involving only small-sized
and immobile or slow-moving animals, hence the
lack of firm observations of such behaviour.
Dining
Drinking of free water is not very common among
red colobus. It has not been observed in the
Zanzibar red colobus or Iringa red colobus (S. K.
