of speciaion is allopatric speciaion. This claim is
not substaniated. It may be true, but it is unwise
to exclude other modes of speciaion from the
start, especially parapatric speciaion involving
habitat change. If it occurred, it must have
resulted in a different distribuion patten.
As in cladisic biogeography we shall define
areas of endemism. An area of endemism is, in
principle, every area to which a taxon is restricted.
