Malawi, he Easten Arc mountains would be
defined by the monophyleic taxon Op hnia
which includes 11 species, disributed from the
Usambara Mountains in northeasten Tanzania
to the Viphya Mountains in Malawi (see Figure
7.3). This geographical deiniion of the Easten
Arc mountains is very similar to 'The
Tanganyika-Nyasa Montane Forest Group' (as
defined by Moreau, 1966) based on the distribu-
ion of forest birds. The linyphiid fauna of the
areas covered in this topic is, however, remarkable
n two ways:
1. The high number of endemic species on
the individual mountains, much higher
than on oher mountains in cenral East
Africa (northen Tanzania, Kenya and
easten Uganda).
