In-Depth Information
For the trellis
16 wood posts, 8 feet long and 3-4 inches in diameter
16 metal mid-posts
72 wood grape stakes (4 feet long by 1 inch square)
3000 feet of 12 or 14 gauge, high-tensile wire
50 wire vices or
50 Gripples
70 wire clips
The diameter of wooden end posts should be determined by the length of the row—that
is, a row of 20 to 40 feet would only require 3- to 4-inch diameter end posts, while a row
of 50 to 100 feet would need 5-inch end posts and a row of greater than 100 feet would
require 6-inch end posts.
For the wire, the larger the gauge, the thinner the wire. Use 14 gauge wire for shorter
rows, say, under 100 feet, and 12 gauge for longer rows. I would use 10 gauge for the fruit-
ing wire in very long rows of over 500 feet.
Construction Supplies
