NEMATODES Any of a wide variety of microscopic roundworms in soil. Some are bene-
ficial and some are pests that feed on vine roots.
NODE The bulges in the shoot or cane from which buds appear. These buds develop into
leaves, tendrils, clusters, or other buds.

PETIOLE The stalk that attaches a leaf to a stem.
PH A measure of acidity or alkalinity, measured on a scale from 1 (very acidic) to 14
(very alkaline). pH is measured both in soil and in grape juice.
