STORAGE AND WINEMAKING PREP
Whether you will be making your own wine or delivering your grapes to a winemaker,
here are some tips to help your grapes make the transition from the vineyard to the winery
in good shape. Wine goes bad mainly because of unsanitary conditions in the handling of
the grapes, allowing the grapes to sit in a warm environment, or having grapes that are dis-
eased (bunch rot is a frequent culprit). Here are some good practices for growers to main-
tain:
1. All picking and transport containers should be cleaned by a thorough washing. Use
a solution of antibacterial soap or 5 percent hydrogen peroxide and water, scrubbing
with a stiff brush, or steam clean with a power washer.
