→ When you prune in late winter, on the most vigorous vines, allow three buds on
every other spur; also, on the weak vines, consider allowing only one bud on every
other spur alternating with two buds on the adjacent spur.
→ Finally, consider developing additional spurs with downward pointing shoots, and
training existing spurs downward. For this procedure, you may have to add another
wire or a set of double wires, 12 to 14 in. below the fruiting wire, to position the
downward-growing shoots.
