In-Depth Information
13 people, together with a flint arrowhead and some pottery, were discovered in the
pair of side chambers that lead from the main passageway. The barrow has obviously
deteriorated over the years, and the drystone walling is merely a reconstruction.
Cross the open meadow to pass alongside the Nympsfield Long Bar-
row (grid ref: 794015), then continue to the scarp edge of Frocester Hill
for some magnificent views. Drawing the eye is flattopped Cam Long Down
to the south-west. The escarpment sweeps in a great curve, the Severn winding out
in the west, and down below farms appear little more than dolls' houses. This is a lovely
viewpoint, worth giving time to absorb.
