On coming to Wood Stanway (accommodation), a community still, it ap-
pears, committed to working the land, head to the left along a narrow road
which soon rises past Glebe Farm, then continues as a farm track. Above
the farm the path winds up through meadows sloping the hillside, keeping
to the left of a line of power cables. Although the path is not always evid-
ent on the ground, there are waymarks to guide you.
Pass well to the right of a house called Lower Coscombe, then bear left
above it and follow the waymarks leading on a diagonal ascent of the hill.
There is a narrow line of a path which brings you to the head of the slope
at the left-hand end of the row of trees seen earlier - a memorial seat
has been placed here to exploit the wonderful view. Keep to the left of a
drystone wall and follow it to the road junction at Stumps Cross (grid ref:
076304).
Bear right immediately round the wall and onto the farm track of Camp-
den Lane, a one-time sheep drove-road, which is now followed for about
