Dodington Park, a series of graceful meadows between Tormarton and Old Sodbury
With due caution, cross the road to its western side and through trees
come into a meadow. Walk down this to a footbridge spanning the infant
River Frome, then follow a path half-left guided by stiles and kissing gates
through a series of meadows that form part of Dodington Park. Eventually
you will come to the drive leading to Dodington House (unseen off to the
left). Cross the drive and continue ahead through a field to reach a quiet
road at Coomb's End (grid ref: 753805).
DODINGTON HOUSE
Dodington House is one of the largest private houses in the Cotswolds. Unseen from
the Cotswold Way, the mansion was built for Christopher Bethell Codrington in 1795
on the site of a former Tudor house, although the great parkland was landscaped by
Capability Brown 30 years earlier.
Bear right and walk along the road rising uphill, soon passing a turning
to the left. Continue to a cottage beside which you'll see a sign directing
you to the left. In the field follow a hedge on your right (northwards), pass
through a gap and go down the slope to a kissing gate. Through this, angle
across the field aiming half-left towards the far corner, passing a small
