At the junction bear right, and a few metres later turn left along a
drive with a signpost to Little Sodbury. A footpath extends from the drive,
crosses through the middle of a field to a stile on the far side, then goes
steeply down into a dip with a farm reservoir seen ahead to the left. Go up
the opposite slope and into the next field where you trace the right-hand
boundary.
Maintain direction through subsequent fields towards a cottage. The
footpath leads alongside this and out to a road nearly opposite Little Sod-
bury church. Dedicated to St Adeline, its squat tower is half-hidden among
yew and beech trees. For such a small place Little Sodbury holds a re-
markable place in English history.
Turn right, then left by the church at a road junction. Heading towards
Old Sodbury, pass the church first, then The Laurels and, on the right, the
wellscrubbed Church Farm. Continue along the road for about 500 metres
to where a drive breaks away left to Little Sodbury Manor. Turn along
this drive and almost immediately branch right on an enclosed footpath.
Through a gate head left up the slope, then go sharp right in front of con-
verted farm buildings to find a kissing gate leading onto Sodbury Hill
Fort .
Waymarks lead through the northern earth ramparts and across the
shallow rectangular centre of the fort, then out through the low ramparts
on the south side. A footpath goes into a small woodland and down a
slope. Once out of the trees look for a kissing gate on the left which directs
the path along the upper left-hand boundary of a field. On the far side go
