Chapter 12
Technical Integration of an
MDM system
We are now going to bring together several important
aspects of the technical integration of an MDM system with
the rest of an information system. First of all, we will
describe three integration models, with successively weak
coupling, tight coupling and loose coupling.
We will also show how to correct the usual weaknesses in
pivot formats used at the EAI/ESB level of benefiting from
the semantic modeling already carried out for the MDM
system. We will describe in detail how the repository is put
to work for a better governance of exchanges between
systems, followed by synchronization mechanisms with other
databases and, finally, its integration with the Business
Rules Management System (BRMS). We will end this
chapter with a proposal for the classification of databases
(relational OLTP versus semantic) coupled with the
development techniques (traditional versus Model-driven) in
order to take into consideration the differences between the
integration of an OLTP MDM and a Model-driven MDM
system.
