In-Depth Information
− business object handled in the case of create, update
and delete. A business objects list is possible in the read
case;
− permissions management: i.e. the organizational
conditions that enable its execution. This is the access rights
but also the enforcement rules of these rights such as,
especially, the thresholds applied to certain data. For
example, an actor is empowered to delete products (access
rights) except those which have a price superior to a certain
threshold (enforcement rules);
− context management: i.e. the variants to apply to this
use case. This translates to a hiding of certain data that we
do not wish to use in the execution of the use case, depending
on the context. For example, we can have a use case “Party
entry” and filter the company name and the company
registration number for the context of an individual party.
Another type of filter can be necessary when a use case is set
off by the workflow: the process limits the action required by
the user; rather than present the totality of the business
object data, the context enables a screen dedicated to the
work that the user must carry out to be built. For example, if
the process is asking for the modification of the contact
details of a client, it is not necessary that the MDM system
screen present all the data of this client; it is better to create
a variant on the “modify client” use case limited to the
management of the contact details.
This documentation must not be formulated in an
informal manner, with the help of a word processor. It would
be too verbose, difficult to maintain and not synchronized
with the software. On the other hand, all the characteristics
of these use cases are master data that can be entered into
the MDM system. It is then necessary to establish a use
cases repository. If the MDM system tool is properly studied
then it already integrates this repository or enables it to be
built in an accelerated manner: introspection of business
object data and filtering by use contexts (through decision
