Therefore, it is preferable to begin organization modeling
only after the semantic models are available and valid.
These procedures benefit from the Praxeme method,
readily made available by the Praxeme Institute.
As for semantic modeling, the pragmatic modeling
procedures form a toolkit destined at the same time for
business users and the IT department.
11.1. The components of pragmatic modeling
Pragmatic modeling is built around three components:
− the “processes” model, in the form of a succession of
steps, the coordination of work between actors involved in
the use of the MDM system. This is a data approval process,
handled by a workflow, with a task list that notifies the
players of the operations that need to be carried out;
− the “use cases” model the interactions of one actor with
the MDM system 2 , in the form of a succession of activities
that participate in the execution of an operation. The use
cases can generally be reduced to a single activity that
answers a model such as: display of a screen, data input and
data validation;
− the “administrative objects” represent the information
relative to the organization, like, for example, the permission
data of a system, the meta-data used to manage archiving
data. They are equivalent to business objects in semantic
modeling but their reach is more organizational than core
business.
We will now provide the modeling procedures for each of
these components.
