The operations in charge of the creation and the deletion
of a business object have an impact on the state of the object
and must appear on the state machine, at least as start and
end states of the machine.
Based on the states utilized by the state machine, we can
define the decision table for the modification of business
objects. This table describes the possibilities for updating
each datum according to each business state (Figure 9.9).
The MDM system automatically exploits this decision table
in order to contextualize the data input screen and/or
confirm the modification according to the current state value
of the business object.

As we have already said, this decision table is in itself
master data, which is governed by the MDM system. In this
way, it can be initialized and updated differently according
to the versions and uses contexts such as subsidiaries,
partners, channels etc.
