In-Depth Information
If this type of problem is not anticipated, the data model
is not sufficiently stable and frequent and incompatible
versions will hamper the MDM approach.
The Enterprise Data Office also oversees the data
dictionary, common across the company which defines
business terms: customer, prospect, partner, turnover, place,
etc. The Enterprise Data Office also intervenes when the
business units are unable to reach an agreement about
common data. It can then act in the role of assisting the
negotiation and act as an arbitrator.
The Enterprise Data Office is the single point of contact
for the reference and master data models and the data
dictionary across the whole of the company. It can even,
depending on the organization, be responsible for operational
tasks during modeling and the initialization and
maintenance of the data dictionary.
7.1.3.2. Guarantor of the enterprise data map
The Enterprise Data Office is responsible for the design of
the enterprise data architecture (data map), common to the
company, which delineates the scope in which the business
objects are distributed by business units within the
organization.
This enterprise data map is used to nominate the data
owners. Important interdependencies between business
objects are formalized early in the process, in order to
identify the data which has the highest level of sharing
between business units so that it can be modeled first. A
roadmap, taking into account the modeling procedures and
the priorities for the release of the data repositories, is
written and maintained. This roadmap is under the
responsibility of the Enterprise Data Office which updates it,
during the progress of the MDM process.
