Organizational Aspects
In the previous chapter, we dealt with governance
functions brought by the MDM solution. We will now follow
up this study from an organizational point of view,
concentrating on the relationship between business users
and their IT department.
Without a strategy with sponsorship from the highest
level, the organization which we describe here has little
chance of seeing the light of day. It requires a high level of
business commitment which can only be justified by a
company-wide objective; it concerns the valuation of
intangible IS Assets embodied through business repositories.
Two organizational aspects have to be taken into account:
that which is necessary to encourage and support the
reference and master data modeling and the definition of the
roles surrounding the management of data.
7.1. Organization for semantic modeling
All too often, the approach adopted by business users
during the specification of requirements is informal. When
