3.2.2. Repository updates
A software package must provide programming interfaces
to update and query its reference/master data repository.
These services are used to implement the synchronization of
data between the enterprise MDM system and the software
package.
A detailed study of these services is necessary in order to
analyze how the software package deals with evolved data
administration functions. In particular, the data version
management functions and the data entry by uses contexts
(multi-language, multi-regions, multi-channels, etc.) are not
always available within the software package. In this case,
two approaches are possible:
- invent a mechanism in order to add, in the software
package data model, the information necessary to the
version and context management. If the data model is not
extensive, then the involvement of the software vendor's
R&D team is necessary to achieve this;
- abandoning administration functions related to
version and context management. This abandonment would
mean the end of a real enterprise MDM system because
modern organizations need these functions. It is one of the
important conditions to raise the agility of information
systems and increase their transparency and auditability
(see Chapter 1).
3.2.3. Neutralization of a locked MDM
When a locked MDM is present in a software package, two
approaches are possible. It is necessary either to:
- neutralize its administration functions to favor those
brought by the enterprise MDM system. This implies that
