In-Depth Information
“It's bad enough to have to eat this stuff but now I'm being asphyxiated by it,” he
griped under his breath.
“Look, it's only because it's been infused in something else. That's why it's a bit per-
fumed. Now please calm down, everyone's looking at us.”
“Humph!”
I turned to ItsWill who was also looking rather ruffled.
“Will, would you mind filling Jack's glass please? I suspect his throat might be a little
dry now.”
ItsWill sprang to my aid.
“Well, of course, my dear, lubrication is undoubtedly what's called for in a situation
like this, and lots of it! In fact, if I may, I shall refresh each of our glasses because what I
have to tell you now is certainly worthy of some celebration.”
With that he charged our glasses and to my utter dismay fished out a completely new
set of particulars from his man-sac.
“Enough!” exclaimed Jack, fully restored. “I'm telling you, I'm a hair's breadth away
from giving up this whole ridiculous search.”
I held my breath. Was this the end?
“We already have the information on this afternoon's property,” he continued. “Why
do we need a new lot? Please don't tell us that you've revised them to include a new swim-
ming pool or perhaps an extra house that you hadn't previously noticed?”
Haw haw , jolly good, old man. Back on form I see. No, nothing like that at all. What
I have here is the surprise. This is a completely new estate which will be much better than
your original choice. I took the liberty of discarding it and slotting this one in its place. It's
simply a triumph.
We were speechless. Mistaking this as a positive sign, ItsWill proudly thrust the wad
of papers into our hands and sat back in smug delight.
I didn't know what to say. With everything crossed, I nervously turned the first page
to discover what on earth lay in store for us this time. Would this push Jack to breaking
point?
“Will, we look forward to viewing this estate,” I said at last, my eyes not daring to
meet Jack's. “Who knows, it may turn out to be exactly what we are looking for.”
It needed to be, that was abundantly clear. If not, the writing was on the wall and we
could be heading back to England empty-handed.
