Table 2.
Your Visual Response: Translation
Make a robot with long legs; your robot will dance. What function/advantage the legs provide to the robot in respect to its environment
and coexisting creatures? Make your robot bio-inspired without copying nature. You may want to inspire yourself with the works of a
Dutch artist Theo Jansen, who builds large mechanisms called Strandbeest (http://www.strandbeest.com/) that can move on their own.
Your robot will dance having every point of its body moving in the same direction over the same distance, without any rotation, reflec-
tion, or change in size. This means your robot will carry out translation, which describes movement of an object in space. Let your robot
move forward, backward, right or to the left.
Now you may want to compose music for your robot. What kind of music will you compose to make this special kind of dance with
restrictive movements the most attractive? Maybe you can also write a score?
