graphic images with the use of stencils
(MOMA, 2012). Color separation and a
silkscreen look can be created with soft-
ware such as Adobe Photoshop.
Figure 7, “City Neighborhood” is a pho-
tosilkscreen after computer plot. It tells about
connectedness of people, even without the
use of networking technologies. The multi-
plicity of windows surrounding everybody
returning home provides one with a feeling
of the presence of others and gives an as-
surance coming from being a part of the big
community.
Figures 8a and 8b present examples of
printmaking techniques combined with
digital technologies:
Digital Illustration: A great variety of
other techniques applied in digital illustra-
tion encompass the 2D, 3D, interactive,
and many other types of illustration includ-
ing smart graphics, intelligent and adaptive
graphics often used for the production of
mailing postcards, flyers, brochures, door
hangers posters, business cards, magnetic
plastic cards, presentation folders, stickers,
labels, and also sketch-based interfaces
and rendering techniques for the 3D mod-
els (Knödel, Hachet, & Guitton, 2009).
Figure 9, “Moon” was done with the use
of airbrush, a pre-digital tool often used by
illustrators and commercial artists. In this
case the airbrushing was combined with
application of the programmed images.
Figure 10a and 10b show the process of
programming, and then manipulating a
simplified image of a horse and rider. Images
of the programmed horses served later for
further transformation in other media.
