Using natural metaphors scientists and artists work
at the interface between economics, biology and
neuroscience to attain the enrichment of economic
models aimed for instance, at environmental results
and green architecture.
Figure 7, “Green Architecture” is about en-
vironmental architecture. We care about knitting
together dwellings within a landscape, with roofs
repeating the line of the hills, and slowly learn
to draw natural resources from the power of sun,
wind, and water.
oping the way of thinking in terms of metaphorical
presentation of information and knowledge. The
Visual Literacy.org (2011) defines a skill of visual
literacy as the ability to evaluate, apply, or create
conceptual visual representations. Members of the
International Visual Literacy Association (http://
www.ivla.org/) consider this skill critical for busi-
ness, communication, and engineering students.
The use of natural metaphors offers the learners
opportunity to sense the mathematical beauty while
watching, for example, how a Nautilus shell obeys
the rules of equations. Duality of mathematics as
both the art form and the science is presented in
nonverbal language in the art works, with many
examples provided at Google Images. Eric Heller,
professor of physics and chemistry (Harvard Univer-
sity) recorded a Rogue II http://www.ericjhellergal-
lery.com/index.pl?page=image;iid=68 as a study
of the effect of changing the speed of deep-water
ocean waves, which is a simulation of the flow of
wave energy as it negotiates a region of current
eddies that is refracting waves. This scientific work
is also perceived as artwork.

Developments in information and communication
technologies strengthened the logical basis for the
metaphorical approach to teaching and learning.
One may also say, the improvements in visual
literacy result in the growing importance of devel-
