Visual Solution: A Coin
Verbal Solution: A Coin Description
Design a coin; An image on a coin may show a face of a person, a
place, an animal, an invention, or an artwork you create. Think of
your own, personal hero, for example somebody technology oriented
or an inventor in computing. Choose a shape of your coin.
Describe a design of a coin you want to create and the content of an
image you would like to place on it. Explain your choice of this image
and a way you would like to render it. If it is somebody's visage, tell
about this person and the reason for minting a coin in this person's
honor. If you would rather like to create another image, comment
on the idea behind your choice and the issues you would like to dis-
seminate or support.
Design both an obverse (the front face, a head) and a reverse (the
back face, a tail) of your coin. Decide what orientation your coin
would have: it would be a 'coin orientation' if you flip vertically to
show the other side of the coin, or a 'medalic orientation' when one
has to flip a coin horizontally to see the other side correctly oriented.
Later on, maybe you can summarize your statement in a concise form
so it will fit for the back face of your coin. Also, remember to place
a year of (virtual) minting on the head of your coin.
Design your coin once again, this time in an abstract way. Find a
metaphor, symbol, or a sign that would best characterize the theme of
the coin you have already designed. If you have previously created a
visage of somebody you admire, or whose work and achievements you
respect, find a visual shortcut that signifies the object of your esteem.
It may be a short formula, a segment of musical notation, a chunk of
a computer program, an object that brought about a praise or fame
(such as a topic or a tool mastered by this person). If it is not a person,
convey the essence of your message in a symbolic or abstract way.
Describe your coin once again, this time in an abstract way. Find a
way to convey in a symbolic or abstract way the essence of a message
you put on a coin. Put the shortest slogan on the coin.
Write a short story about an experience that left a strong impression
on you and influenced your choice of the theme for a coin. Describe
how you have encountered a person, idea, object, or place you depicted
on the coin and how your symbolic or abstract representation conveys
the essence of this experience.
