What should I feed my chickens?
Short answer: Grass, insects, table scraps, and commercial feed.
Grass and insects can make up about 20% of a chicken's diet during the growing sea-
son.
You should also save your kitchen scraps to give to your chickens. But don't feed your
chickens solely on scraps—only give them about as many scraps as they'll eat in 15
minutes every day.
The bulk of your chickens' diet will be some type of grain-based feed that you will prob-
ably buy at the local feed store. The type of feed depends on your chickens' ages and pur-
