Should I add a rooster to my flock?
Short answer: Maybe.
A rooster is not necessary to produce eggs. So, if you live in the city and have close
neighbors, forget the rooster.
However, a rooster is necessary for producing chicks . The easiest way to keep your
chicken flock self-sustaining is to include a rooster so that your hens can raise chicks every
year and expand the flock. A good rooster will also protect your flock from predators.
