effects of environment and genotype x environment interaction on some components of
quality [68]. However, as the contributions of certain varieties, or combinations of varieties,
are clearly more effective in mixtures than those of others [41], devising a testing regime, that
would assess the potential of new varieties, as possible mixture components, would be a
useful objective. In addition, for markets such as distilling, where the stimulus for future
varietal production remains unclear, utilising mixtures, to prolong the commercial life-span of
existing, high quality varieties, may become increasingly important.
