Though Ambato remains a neglected international travel destination, it surprisingly offers
some of the country's most impressive hotels. Because of its renown as a national corpor-
ate hub, an influx of business travelers and wealthy Ecuadorians keep the hotel industry

beautiful plaza built to commemorate the Ambateño fight for independence against the
Spanish in the 1800s.

Hotel Ambato is a sleek centrally-located hotel with excellent views of the Ambato River
and the city's cathedral. It's a good option for a quiet stay in comparison with other down-
town hotels.

Hotel Emperador is Ambato's top accommodation option by far, best suited for business
travelers or anyone looking for a comfortable getaway. Along with clean, spacious and
modern rooms, the hotel guests have access to the hotel spa (outfitted with pool and
Jacuzzi), a top-floor restaurant with panoramic mountain views, a fitness center, banquet
hall and piano bar. Though the website and other guidebooks claim it has a casino,
gambling was outlawed in Ecuador in 2012 and thus the casino part of the Emperor Hotel
is closed down until further notice.
