In-Depth Information
Like many other places in the Galápagos, Isla los Lobos and El León Dormido have both
Spanish and English names that mean completely different things. Kicker Rock is so
called because some say it resembles a boot while its Spanish name The Sleeping Lion' al-
ludes to a reposing animal; imagine if everyone in a province got together to name all the
clouds. Whatever you call it, these are two easily accessible must-dive sites located off the
shores of San Cristóbal Island. The shores at Isla los Lobos are swimming with droves of
sea lions while Kicker Rock's (a lava cone split in two by time) channel is navigated by
white-tipped reef sharks and schools of hammerheads deeper down.
