Cronicas is another dark thriller starring John Leguizamo and directed by Sebastián Cor-
dero, whose debut Ratas, Ratones y Rateros kept audiences excited for more.
Leguizamo's character, Manolo Bonilla, is a Miami tabloid journalist that travels to Ba-
bahoyo, Ecuador in search of an infamous serial killer on the run. When he witnesses
vehicular homicide, he visits the jail where the perpetrator is being held to interview him
but the criminal, Cepedo, is more interested in giving Manolo information on the Monster
of Babahoyo, the serial killer Manolo is searching for, in exchange for his release. You'll
have to see the rest yourself to get the full impact of the big twist.
Qué Tan Lejos (2006)
How Much Farther? is a breakthrough film by Cuencana director Tania Hermida that fol-
lows the story of three travelers whose paths cross on the road: Tristeza (Sadness) a Quito
student making her way to Cuenca to disrupt her boyfriend's wedding (to someone else),
Esperanza (Hope) a Spanish tourist who is fascinated by all things Ecuador, and Jesús,
who is taking his grandmother's ashes to Cuenca, her birthplace. However, an indigenous
strike shuts down roads that lead south and the women, who meet on the derailed bus, de-
cide to improvise their way to Cuenca, meeting Jesús and other funny characters along the
way. The national favorite won several awards, including first prize at the Montreal World
Film Festival.
Prometeo Deportado (2009)
Directed by Fernando Mieles, Deporting Prometeo takes place in an unknown first world
airport, where Europeans fly through immigration while Ecuadorians wait in line for their
turn. When the arrival of an Ecuadorian flight is announced, immigrations police suddenly
detain all the Ecuadorians in one room where the remainder of the film takes place. The
young magician Prometeo then begins entertaining the frightened detainees, and as the
waiting room fills with more people, the room becomes a small 'Ecuador': the country's
personalities and limits in a nutshell.
El Pescador (2011)

Pescador , or The Fisherman, about 30 year-old Blanquito who lives in a northern fishing
village with his mother. One day, he finds a large amount of cocaine ashore and decides to
travel to Guayaquil to sell it and earn himself a better life, as well as to meet the father he
never knew. He meets the beautiful and wealthy Lorna who says she knows people in
