hard to go wrong with this big historic pub on a busy corner near the centre of town.
The unpasteurised 12° Pilsner Urquell is arguably the best beer in Olomouc. The
smallish menu is loaded with Czech classics, like the ever-popular Španělský ptáček
(literally 'Spanish bird'), a beef roulade stuffed with smoked sausage, parsley and a
hard-boiled egg.

Another microbrewery (what's in the water in Olomouc?), this is a bit bigger than
Moritz and it's easier to find a walk-in table here. The microbrewery produces several
excellent versions of unpasteurised yeast beer. The menu features mostly Czech
standards done well, plus a few dishes that experiment with Olomouc's signature
stinky cheese.

at this popular pub/restaurant. It's worth persevering though because the huge
Moravian meals are tasty and supreme value. Don't worry - they've got an English
menu if you're still getting up-to-speed with Haná.

wander round and look at the fascinating memorabilia displayed in every nook and
cranny here. Don't take too long though, because the service is prompt and the
Moravian food very good. There's also a good (if pricey) international wine list.

an art-nouveau villa that played host to Austrian artist Gustav Klimt in the early 20th
century, the Vila Primavesi is one of Olomouc's most exclusive restaurants. On sum-
mer evenings enjoy meals like tuna steak and risotto in the lovely gardens. Lunch spe-
cials are better value than evening meals.
