KV's not short of top-end hotels, but most lack the personal touch of the
family-owned Embassy, with its riverside location and perfectly pitched heritage
rooms. The hotel's pub and restaurant have seen visits from plenty of film-fest lu-

GRANDHOTEL PUPP €€€
accounting of KV's hotels would be complete without mentioning the granddaddy, the
Pupp, whose history dates back to the 18th century. Take a look at a few rooms, as
layouts and furnishings differ from wing to wing. Even if you're not staying here, take
a peek inside; the restaurants are very good, and the period-piece atmosphere is per-
fect.

Don't be put off by the ugly monolith of the Hotel Thermal dominating the views
from this good-value, reader-recommended hotel (just squint a little). The spacious
rooms are very tidy and the English-speaking staff very helpful.

Friendly staff abound in this cosy spot above a cafe. It's close to the bus and train
stations, and the nearby eateries can help you avoid the high prices at the spa district's
restaurants. The rooms are starting to look a bit worn, but it's still OK value.
