(Žižkovo náměstí ) Žižkovo náměstí is Tabor's handsome main square. On every side
it's lined with late-Gothic, Renaissance and baroque houses, and in the middle is a
fountain (1567) with a statue of the Hussite commander Jan Žižka (see boxed text
CLICK HERE ) after whom the square is named. The two stone tables nearby were
probably used by the Hussites for religious services.

museum traces the origins and history of the Hussite movement in the Czech Repub-

Hussite Museum), you'll find the entrance to a fascinating 650m stretch of under-
ground passageways, which you can visit by guided tour only. The passages, con-
structed in the 15th century as refuges during fires and times of war, were also used to
store food and to mature beer.

Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord on Mt Tábor, built between 1440 and 1512
and known for its stone vaulting and neo-Gothic altar. Its tower is open (weather de-
pendent) for a sweeping view of Tábor.

8.30am-5pm Apr-Sep) Kotnov castle, founded here in the 12th century, was destroyed
by fire in 1532: in the 17th century the ruins were transformed into a brewery. The
remnant 15th-century Kotnov Tower can be climbed from the Bechyně Gate for a
broad view of Tábor and the Lužnice River.
