No, it's not a hostel, but it is a cosy cafe-bar with occasional DJ sets and live
music. The scruffy rear garden could most charitably be described as a work in pro-
gress.

The Hotel Budweis opened its doors in 2010, hived out of an old grain mill with a
picturesque canal-side setting. The owners have opted for a smart contemporary look.
All of the rooms have air-conditioning and are wheelchair accessible. There are two
good restaurants in house, and the central location puts other eating and drinking op-
tions just a short walk away.

'Since 1533' says the sign, but we're pretty sure Zvon ‒ one of the city's lead-
ing hotels ‒ has been renovated since then. The ritzy facade across three main-square
buildings is let down by standard rooms, but the executive rooms (add a whopping
80% to listed prices) would be classy in any town.

Carved wooden doors open to a restful interior inside these two old burghers' houses
in a quiet street. The restaurant comes recommended by the tourist information office.
