Dance Prague (Tanec Praha)
International festival of modern dance ( www.tanecpraha.cz ) held at theatres
around Prague throughout June.
August
August weather is typically hot and humid with occasional thunderstorms. Many
locals go away on holiday, while the city is overrun with visiting backpackers,
students and school groups - avoid if possible.
Festival of Italian Opera
Beginning sometime in late August and extending into September, this festival
( www.opera.cz ) features the works of Verdi and other Italian composers per-
formed at the Prague State Opera - your chance to see quality productions outside of
the main opera season.

Autumn is a great time to visit - the tourist crowds start to thin out, it's pleas-
antly warm, and the Autumn Strings festival is less frenetic than the Prague
Spring.
Strings of Autumn (Struny podzimu)
Strings ( www.strunypodzimu.cz ) is an eclectic program of musical perform-
ances, from classical and baroque to avant-garde jazz, Sardinian vocal polyphony and
contemporary Swiss yodelling. The program runs for eight weeks from mid-Septem-
ber to mid-November.
