The Angelo is the brighter, more-extravagant cousin of nearby Anděl's
Hotel. It has the same slick lobby presentation and hi-tech room decor, but instead of
the Anděl's muted whites, the Angelo is a riot of rich colour. Both are owned by the
same Austrian group, Vienna International, and there's not much difference between
the two in terms of price or service.

HOTEL UNION €€
; 7, 18, 24)
A grand old hotel from 1906, the Union was nationalised
by the communists in 1958 and returned to the former owner's family in 1991. Com-
fortably renovated, with a few period touches left intact, the hotel is at the foot of the
hill below Vyšehrad fortress. Bedrooms are plain but pleasant.
Ask for one of the deluxe corner rooms, which are huge and have bay windows
with a view of either Vyšehrad or distant Prague Castle.

HOTEL JULIAN €€
; 6, 9, 12, 20)
A deservedly popular small hotel with helpful staff and
a quiet location just south of Malá Strana. The smart, well-kept bedrooms are decor-
ated with relaxing pastels and pine-topped furniture. The public areas include a
clubby drawing room with a library and open fire. The property markets itself as a
'romantic' hotel and offers special deals over the internet for couples.
If you're travelling with kids or in a group, there are a couple of family rooms that
can hold up to six people, and there's also a wheelchair-accessible room. The in-room
air-conditioning can be a life-saver in hot weather.
