In-Depth Information
15, 25, 26)
'Le Chien Andalou' is an after-hours cocktail bar with retro flair. The invit-
ing front room, sporting velvet bar stools and glittery walls, attracts a kind of Edward
Hopper
Nighthawks
crowd. The back rooms have a more risqué feel ‒ dark and
crowded some nights ‒ with faces recognisable only by the glow of their cigarettes.
PUUB
SVIJANSKÝ RYTÍŘ
1, 8, 15, 25, 26)
Inviting pub that serves authentic Czech cuisine - heavy on staples
such as pork and chicken schnitzels - but the real draw here is the availability of
highly regarded Svijany beers, both light and dark, including the flagship 12° Rytíř
and the stronger but even more fabled 13° Kníže. Closed weekends.

ALCHYMISTA

1, 8, 15, 25, 26)
This old-fashioned coffee house with an adjacent art
gallery is an oasis in the culturally barren neighbourhood behind Sparta Stadium.
Freshly ground coffees, a serious selection of teas (no Lipton in a bag here), and
freshly made cakes and strudels draw a mostly local crowd.
BAAR
AKÁDEMIE
( 233 375 236; Šmeralová 5, Bubeneč; 5pm-3am; 1, 8, 15, 25, 26)
This cavernous
bar has several pool tables and dart boards to amuse in case you tire of sitting around
chewing the fat. The game of choice here is eight ball; the tables are large and well
maintained. Waiters bring your beers to the table, and everything is toted up - bil-
liards included - at the end.
BAAR
ZTRACENÝ RÁJ
26)
One of several mostly student-oriented cafes and bars on this leafy street just off
Letenské náměstí. Not much to lure you here aside from decent Pilsner Urquell on tap
at non-touristy prices, a general convivial vibe and some scruffy picnic tables out
front that feel just right on a warm evening.
