This walk takes you through two of Prague's nicest parks and leaves you just a
short walk from Prague Zoo.
Begin at the Summer Palace (Letohrádek) north of Prague Castle. A path leads
east into Chotkovy sady; in the centre of the park you will find a
stone grotto
dedicated to novelist Josef Zeyer. A footbridge leads across Chotkova into Letná
Gardens. Follow the path, which bears right and then make a further right to visit
Hanavský Pavilón
for a superb panorama.
Keep walking along the bluff above the Vltava before arriving at a monumental
terrace topped by a giant, creaking
metronome
that sits on a spot once oc-
cupied by a giant statue of Stalin. Continue east and you'll eventually arrive at
the
Letná beer garden
.
Beyond the beer garden, the path slopes down through pretty flower gardens.
Leave the park and continue downhill on Skalecká, then turn left along busy
Dukelských hrdinů. Follow this street north for 400m, stopping to visit the
Ve-
letržní Palác
and eventually the Výstaviště exhibition grounds. If you're in the
mood for more culture, stop by
Lapidárium
to wander among some of the
city's finest sculptures.
Bear left at the entrance to Výstaviště and follow the path to the right of the ter-
minal loop of tram 5, passing the
Prague Planetarium
as you enter the
former royal hunting ground, Stromovka.
From here, wander through Stromovka at your leisure, heading vaguely north. In
the distance on a hill toward the west you'll see the Renaissance
Mistodrži-
