WORTH A DETOUR: PRAGUE ZOO
Prague's family-friendly zoo (Zoo Praha; 296 112 111; www.zoopraha.cz ; U
Trojského zámku 120, Troja; adult/concession/family 150/100/450Kč; 9am-7pm Jun-Aug, to
6pm Apr, May, Sep & Oct, to 5pm Mar, to 4pm Nov-Feb; ; Nádraží Holešovice, 112) is
north of Holešovice, reachable by bus 112 from Nádraží Holešovice metro sta-
tion, or a 15-minute walk from Stromovka park. Visit on a weekday if possible ‒
weekends get ridiculously crowded.
The 60-hectare wooded grounds are on the northern banks of the Vltava.
Pride of place, atop the hill, goes to a herd of Przewalski's horses (the zoo
played an important part in saving them from extinction) and the Komodo
dragons. Other attractions include a miniature cable car and kids' play area.

of Výstaviště, presents various slide and video presentations in addition to the star
shows. Most shows are in Czech only, but one or two of the more popular ones
provide a text summary in English (check the website for details). There's also an as-
tronomical exhibition in the main hall.
THE PRAGUE FLOOD, 10 YEARS ON
More than a decade has passed since Prague was struck by one of the worst
floods in its thousand-plus years of existence. Following heavy rains in the sum-
mer of 2002, the Vltava overflowed its banks on August 13-14 that year. The
